RefCoM equipment research and development program, 1976-1986. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5584000
The RefCoM facility at Pompano Beach, Florida, designed during 1975/76, incorporated ''state-of-the-art'' technology for separating the cellulosic fraction of municipal solid waste for feeding to a digestion system. The start-up and commissioning of Ref Com necessarily involved the development of the refuse-separation techniques in order to proceed with its major objective - the evaluation of the anaerobic digestion process. This report describes those modifications (both successful and otherwise) which were perfomed on the as-built plant in order to produce a facility which operates reliably, on a daily basis as it does today. The intent of this document is to alert future designers and operators of RefCoM type facilities to the shortcomings of both the design and technology concepts that existed some six years ago, in order that the same mistakes will not be repeated. 16 refs., 43 figs., 13 tabs.
