Fusion measurements in light- and medium-mass heavy-ion reactions

Collaborations in heavy-ion experiments at Argonne have continued and a new collaboration at Notre Dame has been initated. Analysis of ..gamma..-ray data obtained at Argonne for the fusion of /sup 16/ /sup 18/0 + /sup 24/ /sup 26/Mg has almost been completed. Preliminary reports were given in November, 1981, and papers are being prepared. Experiments with beams of /sup 4/ /sup 2/S and /sup 58/Ni on targets from isotopes of Sn to /sup 170/Yb have been made for the cross sections for fusion-evaporation and fusion-fission processes. At Notre Dame, a series of experiments to determine the entry line properties of residues from the fusion of /sup 16/0 + /sup 12/C have been undertaken. Progress is reported. (WHK)
