Effect of stoke's displacement of absorption and emission bands on optical bistability in a fabry-perot interferometer
An analysis of the dependence of radiation transmitted through a nonlinear Fabry-Perot interferometer on the incident flux intensity is useful for considering a new class of optical signal processing-bistable elements. The authors studied the peculiarities of optical bistability caused by mirror symmetry of the Gaussian emmission and absorption coefficients. Calculations were made on the assumption that the interferometer was of high quality. The results show that Stoke's displacement of the emission band has a significant effect on the transmission characteristics of a Fabry-Perot interferometer, and they illustrate preferred operation at offset frequency tuning towards the short-wave region of the spectrum.
