This paper addresses the problem of protection of the environment from vinyl chloride (VC), which is contained in the heat-transfer agent discharged into the drying units. The results of the determination of VC content in polyvinyl chloride dust in the spent heat transfer agents are listed for a number of drying units. The authors consider the case where VC is desorbed from polyvinyl chloride on drying and returns to the production process after its extraction from the spent-heat transfer agent. For selection of an efficient type of unit for drying PVC a comparison of the technical and economic factors of different units in accordance with the standard method is made. Experiments were conducted for drying PVC using models of units indicated in a table. It is shown that the convective dryer using superheated steam as heat-transfer agent at the first stage is the most economical alternative.
