American Agriculture: the energy production system, gasohol

Conference · · Energy Technol. (Wash., D.C.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5448152
The National Gasohol Commission bases its support for a national gasohol program on its understanding that agriculture can unlock renewable energy resources and allow us to preserve the scarce nonrenewables for future chemical and technical work. Sugar and starch crops can be fractured to produce alcohols, ethanol, and methanol. By using land now in the soil bank and developing an alcohol-producing capability, agriculture can provide needed foodstuffs as well as fuels. The US should follow the example Brazil is setting of replacing oil dependence with agriculture. (DCK)
