Fuel prices spur investment analysis

Sophisticated economic analysis will be more commonly used by smaller companies investing in heat-recovery equipment rather than continuing to rely on simple payback calculations. Analyses that include discounted cash flow are recommended by some consultants, while others doubt the validity of this approach and consider it a waste of time to go beyond a straightforward payback calculation. The calculation methods described by five companies are: return on investment; modified pay back, third-party effects; internal rate of return; and simple payback (2). (DCK)
