Because lichens are potentially sensitive indicators of air pollution, a survey of the lichen flora of the Page environment was conducted to establish the nature of the lichen communities prior to the initial operation of the Navaho Power Plant. These data will be used as a base line for comparing future changes in the lichen flora. Altogether 147 species in 37 genera were collected. Because most of the species are crustose, it is anticipated that many of the species will tolerate the air pollution from the power plant.
