Doctoral scientists and engineers working in energy-related activities, 1979

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5428581
Encouraging individuals and groups in the private and public sector to produce and use energy resources wisely and efficiently is an important objective of public policy, as described in the National Energy Policy Plan of 1981. To achieve this objective, a highly educated and motivated pool of engineers and scientists must be available to energy industries and universities for research and development, teaching, and other activities. The present report provides information about the number and characteristics of doctoral-level engineers and scientists in primarily energy-related activities. These data for the year 1979 are part of the data base for a program of continuing studies on the employment and utilization of all scientists and engineers involved in energy-related activities. Information from these studies will help indicate the actions necessary to ensure that adequate numbers of qualified doctoral-level scientists and engineers are available, when needed, to develop the nation's energy resources and technologies.
