We report the observation of the time evolution of incoherent resonant scattering from the 14.4-keV level of [sup 57]Fe excited with synchrotron radiation. The measured time spectra are consistent with a model with two components. In this model, one component has a significantly enhanced decay rate and is the result of recoilfree excitation. The other component has the natural decay rate for an isolated nucleus and results from excitation with recoil.
