Time-dependent electron emission from iron foils excited by synchrotron radiation at the 14.4-keV nuclear resonance of {sup 57}Fe was observed. The measured time spectra are explained as the sum of three contributions, the emission of conversion electrons with and without creating or annihilating phonons during absorption and the emission of photoelectrons. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
