The authors have studied the reactions of salicylaldehyde (I) with simple hydrophosphoryl compounds and of these in conjunction of diethylamine. The homogeneity of the products was shown by means of /sup 31/P NMR and TLC. Their structure was proved by spectral methods and confirmed by elemental analysis. The /sup 31/P NMR spectra are singlets with chemical shifts in the region of 20 ppm, which corresponds to a (hydroxyalkyl) phosphate structure. The PMR spectra contain signals of all the protons and indicate the presence of only one alkoxy group on the phosphorus atom. It should be noted that in the investigation of the PMR spectra in the region in which methylidyne protons are found a distinct splitting of the signal of the methylidyne proton as a result of spin-spin interaction with the hydroxyl proton and the phosphorus atom was obtained only when carefully purified DMSO was used as solvent. /sup 13/C NMR-spectral data also correspond to the proposed structure.
