Nucleophilic phosphorylation of N-(. cap alpha. -chlorobenzyl)benzimidoyl chloride with tervalent-phosphorus compounds

The authors have found that the reactions of the imidoyl chloride with alkoxy and trimethylsiloxy derivatives of tervalent phosphorus at a reactant ratio of 1:1 leads to the phosphorylated imidoyl chlorides. In an analogous way with the formation of the phosphonium salt in which phosphorus is linked to an sp/sup 3/-carbon atom the imidoyl chloride reacts with triphenylphosphine. The compositions and structures of the phosphorylated imidoyl chlorides are confirmed by elemental analyses and spectral data. The presence of a signal of the CH proton with characteristic spin-spin coupling with the phosphorus atom (delta 4.2-5.5 ppm, /sup 2/J/sub HP/ 12-20 Hz) in the PMR spectra of the compounds is in keeping with their structure and rules out completely the alternative structure with phosphorus on an sp/sup 2/-carbon atom.
