Dispersion method of self-consistent description of. pi pi. scattering in the chiral theory

A description of low-energy pion-pion scattering is obtained on the basis of a unitarization of the chiral ..pi pi.. scattering amplitude. The method which is described leads to large corrections to the values of the s-wave ..pi pi.. scattering lengths in the Born approximation. Phenomenological predictions obtained for the s-wave ..pi pi.. scattering lengths are in good agreement with the results of an analysis of recent data from the reaction ..pi..N..--> pi pi..N and from K/sub e/4 decays.
