Gravel packing for the Duri steamflood

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5405449
The multi-billion barrel Duri field is being developed for steamflooding. Gravel packing is being used extensively for sand control. Completion designs have evolved over twenty years of steaming and pilot steamflooding. Both reduced density slurry packing and foam gravel packing are now being used in single and dual zone, open and cased hole designs to complete shallow, underpressured, and unconsolidated formation sands. Continuing problems include lost circulation, loss of pack upon steaming, and lower than expected productivity. Recent improvements have been made in well preparation, fluid cleanliness, liner design, and gravel placement techniques. Foam has been used for drilling, underreaming, and gravel packing in order to combat lost circulation and minimize formation damage.
