The description of the {bar N}N {yields} {pi}{pi} and {bar N}N {yields} {phi}{phi} annihilation processes with hadronic models

The importance of two-step processes and meson-meson interactions in the final state for describing the annihilation of the {bar N}N system into specific two-meson channels is demonstrated within the framework of meson exchange. For the {pi}{pi} system, a full coupled-channels calculation, including the {bar N}N and {pi}{pi} channels as well as the {bar K}K and pp channels, is presented. The elastic interaction in the {bar N}N channel consists of a G-parity transform of the Bonn NN potential. For the annihilation part, a consistent partly-microscopic description is used. Transitions from the antibaryon-baryon sector to the meson sectors are described by the exchange of N, {Delta}, {Lambda}, {Sigma}, and Y* baryons. Interactions and transitions in the meson sector are given by meson-exchange diagrams. The importance of the different channels and transitions for the description of the experimental data is discussed. For the {phi}{phi} annihilation channel, a calculation based on hadronic two-step processes such as {bar N}N {yields} {bar K}K, {bar {Lambda}}{Lambda}, {bar {Sigma}}{Sigma} {yields} {phi}{phi} is presented. Transition amplitudes from the {bar N}N state to the antihyperon-hyperon channels are obtained from recent calculations. Transitions from the antibaryon-baryon sector to the meson sector are again mediated via baryon exchange. The results for the integrated cross section are in good agreement with preliminary data from the JETSET experiment. 18 refs., 10 figs.
