Strangeness production from the {ital {bar p}p}-system in the meson-exchange framework

Starting from our recent investigation of the strangeness production process {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Lambda}}{Lambda} within the conventional meson-exchange framework, we have done a combined description of all hyperon-antihyperon production processes {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Lambda}}{Lambda}, {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Lambda}}{Sigma}{sup 0}+{Sigma}{sup 0}{Lambda}, {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Sigma}}{Sigma} in full coupled channel treatment. While the transition into the {bar {Lambda}}{Lambda} channel is dominated by a strong tensor force due to the exchange of {ital K} and {ital K}* mesons, the tensor forces is reduced or even cancels in transitions into {bar {Lambda}}{Sigma}{sup 0}+{Sigma}{sup 0}{Lambda}or {bar {Sigma}}{Sigma} channels. The new results for {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Lambda}}{Sigma}{sup 0}+{Sigma}{sup 0}{Lambda} as well as {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Sigma}}{Sigma} agree with existing data. Although {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Sigma}}{sup {minus}}{Sigma}{sup {minus}} cannot be reached from {ital {bar p}p} via a single transition the corresponding cross section is only slightly smaller than for {ital {bar p}p}{r_arrow}{bar {Sigma}}{sup +}{Sigma}{sup {minus}} and not at all suppressed. For the OZI-suppressed {phi}{phi} annihilation channel of the {ital {bar p}p} system we present a calculation based on two-step processes like {ital {bar N}N}{r_arrow}{minus}{bar {Lambda}}{Lambda},{bar {Sigma}}{Sigma}{r_arrow}{phi}{phi}. Transitions from the antibaryon sector to the meson sector are mediated via baryon exchange. The results for the total cross section are in good agreement with preliminary data from the JETSET experiment. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
