The article discusses processes of population and depopulation of helium levels with n = 2 in a He--Ne mixture on excitation with an electron beam. From the dependence of the populations on the neon pressure, the rate constant of quenching of the He(2/sup 1/P/sub 1/) state by neon atoms was found to be = (3.2 +- 0.5) x 10/sup -9/ cm/sup 3//sec at T/sub a/ = (600 +- 10) K.
