HVDC control strategies to improve transient stability in the interconnected power systems

A detailed transient convertor simulation programme is used to predict the behaviour of hvdc transmission links during and following large disturbances. The model provides the power frequency information required by a multimachine transient stability programme. The combined programmes are used to investigate the effect of alternative power control strategies on the first swing stability peaks of synchronous machines, placed locally or distant from the convertor terminals.
