Potential description of low-energy elastic pion scattering by /sup 4/He
Elastic ..pi../sup 4/He scattering is considered within the framework of a unitary potential approach based on the method of evolution in the coupling constant. In this approach the iteration procedure is constructed for the direct calculation of pion-nucleus scattering phase shifts. Second-order corrections to the first-order approximation of the theory studied earlier are calculated. It is shown that first two iterations suffice to describe potential elastic ..pi../sup 4/He scattering at pion energy below 70 MeV. A comparison between theory and experiment at 24 and 51 MeV indicates the significant role of the true-pion-absorption channel in describing low-energy pion-nucleus scattering.
