Industrial water reuse versus net water loss. Technical report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5384116
Water use and other data of 13 Delaware River Basin industrial plants were examined to determine the impact of increased reuse of water upon consumptive use of water. The plants were of the petroleum, chemical, paper, food, and primary metal industries. The change over time, year 1971 to 1981, of the reuse factor (reuse/withdrawal) was compared to change in consumptive use per unit of product. Causes for increased reuse have included minimization of water and waste treatment and energy costs. Causes for decreased consumptive use have included increases in dry cooling and heat recovery.
