An examination is given of problems in the kinetics of heterogeneous catalysis at the present time. The central problem is the determination of precise, complete, and supported kinetic models. Solution of this problem requires the combination of kinetic studies with other physicochemical methods. We give a series of models obtained recently in this manner at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. A discussion is given concerning the various features of kinetic models and methods for the further development of kinetics in heterogeneous catalysis taking account of non-steady-state effects, reaction medium effects, the formation of layers on the surface and adjacent to the surface, and other factors which determine the accuracy of kinetic studies and the interpretation of these studies.
