Enhanced optical absorption produced by light trapping in amorphous silicon films

Conference · · Conf. Rec. IEEE Photovoltaic Spec. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5379667
The optical absorption in amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) films has been increased by more than an order of magnitude, at long wavelengths, by deposition of the films on randomly textured substrates. This light trapping phenomenon reduces the effective optical absorption threshold for a film with a given thickness and bandgap and is expected to produce a substantial increase in the short circuit current of Si:H solar cells.
