Subsea caisson completion goes onstream off Brunei. [Oil well]

A well completed in 131-ft water in the South China Sea will have a direct impact on planned subsea completions in Arctic waters and in areas of heavy shipping and fishing activity. Production from this dual completion offshore Brunei has proven the technology for the caisson completion system. The first below-the-ocean floor Christmas tree was installed in the Southwest Ampa Field. Planning for the subsea completion project was started in 1975. Equipment innovations resulting from the project include: 1) an improved 3 /one-half/-in. through flowline (TFL) pump-down completion system with deep set safety valves; 2) dual detachable packer head for simplified workover; and 3) a hydraulic sequencing valve for both tree control and remote flowline connection.
