Under the Illinois Public Utilities Act, the Department is required to prepare biennial statewide natural gas and and electric uitility plans. The 1992-2012 Statewide Electric Plan assesses a variety of statewide supply and demand scenarios, and develops a policy framework based on a number of specific recommendations for meeting future demand in a manner consistent with Illinois' resource planning goals. Central to the policy framework developed in this plan is the concept of resource optioning - developing the capability to deliver a variety of supply and demand resources cost-effectively, when needed and in the amounts needed in the face of demand and supply uncertainty. Volume 1, the Executive Summary, summarizes the supply and demand assessments and policy recommendations.
