Reagan, nuclear industry are ruining atomic power: Bradford

Journal Article · · Electr. Light Power; (United States)

Peter A. Bradford, retiring member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), considers the Reagan approach to nuclear power unacceptable because of inadequate international safeguards for fissile material. He charges that applying the Reagan economic philosophy to nuclear fuel reprocessing and breeder reactors is not only inappropriate because of International Atomic Energy Agency practices, but the emphasis on faster licensing will strengthen public opposition over the safety issue. Bradford also accuses the nuclear industry of misrepresentations that have damaged public confidence, although he is basically positive about nuclear power and the possibility of finding sensible solutions to nuclear issues.
