Analysis of LP-gas: uses, supplies, and prices. [Report]

Book ·
OSTI ID:5375300
Propane (LP-gas) used for home heating has increased from 160,000 Colorado homes in 1970 to possibly over 210,000 today. During the 1970s, the price of propane increased 375%, from 16 cents/gallon to 60 cents/gallon. Colorado produces about as much propane as it consumes, but exports substantial quantities and then imports to meet its needs. The state has no significant long-term storage capacity. The increase in propane prices, concerns about future supplies, and propane's importance to Colorado's rural agricultural community make it important to understand what factors determine the use, supplies, and prices of propane. This report examines past trends and looks to the state's future. 50 references, 13 figures, 9 tables.
