Analytical electron microscopy investigation of the AlN-ZrO/sub 2/ system; Identification of a quaternary Zr-Al-O-N phase

A combination of electron microscopy, diffraction, and spectroscopic techniques were used to identify and characterize the quaternary Zr-Al-O-N phase, which forms during reaction sintering of AIN + ZrO/sub 2/ mixtures. In this paper it is proposed that this phase has a space group Fd/sup 3/m; several compositions are suggested.
