Neutron-to-proton yield ratios in pA and. pi. /sup + -/A interactions

Neutron and proton yields at 120/sup 0/ from pA and ..pi../sup + -/A reactions on a number of light and heavy target nuclei A have been measured at an incident-proton momentum of 7.5 GeV/c and incident-pion momenta of 1.4 and 5.0 GeV/c. The cross-section ratio is discussed in detail for inclusive reactions with emission of neutrons and protons. For heavy target nuclei this ratio turns out to be energy dependent, and at high secondary-nucleon energies it is considerably smaller than the N/Z ratio for the target nucleus.
