Journal Article · · Chem. Process. (Chicago); (United States)

A description of an electricity and steam cogeneration system was presented. The particular system described consisted of compact industrial combustion turbine that drove an electrical generator. The exhaust heat then passed to a duct burner. The exhaust heat from the generator was capable of producing 15,000 lb/hr of saturated steam at 125 psig. With the utilization of the duct burner, the capacity was raised to 33,000 lb/hr of steam. The electrical generator was capable of supplying 2800 KW at 4160 V and 60 Hz, 3-phase. The total system efficiency was 71-72% of the net caloric value of the fuel, as compared to common values of 35% for conventional utility systems. Limited mention was made of the feasibility study and project time, as well as selling of power back to utilities.
