This patent describes a safety valve for a well actuated to close by production flow. It comprises a housing connectable in a well flow conduit, the housing having a bore therethrough; valve means in the housing for controlling flow through the bore; an operating tube longitudinally moveable in the housing between a lower position opening the valve means and an upper position permitting the valve means to close, the operating tube sealed in the housing and having locking recesses and a seat therein; a spring between the housing and operating tube for moving the operating tube to the lower position opening the valve means; lock mandrel means releasably locked in the operating tube locking recesses, the lock mandrel means having a sealing surface sealingly engaged with the operating tube seat; and releasable roller positioning means in the housing engageable with the operating tube for positioning the operating tube in the lower valve means open position, the roller positioning means releasable in response to a predetermined upward movement of the operating tube releasing the operating tube for quick movement to the upper position, the roller positioning means.
