An optical method for diagnostics of microwave radiation, enabling absolute measurement of the power of an electromagnetic wave, is described. Theoretical dependences are presented for the magnitude of the linear electrooptical effect, the microwave reflection coefficient, and the mean effective modulation field on the frequency of the electromagnetic wave entering the receiving transducer, are presented. Working formulas are given. The sensitivity, the SWR, and the measurement error are evaluated. The reliability of the method is demonstrated experimentally.
