MICROWAVE REFLECTION BY NON-UNIFORM PLASMA WITH EXPONENTIAL ELECTRON DISTRIBUTION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4707325
Microwave reflection by non-uniform plasmas with an exponential electron distribution that approaches an equilibrium value far downstream is considered. Several approximate formulas for the reflection coefficient and phase-shift angle are presented. Some numerical calculations have been carried out, and the results are presented in graphs. Comparison of the present results with those for ramped'' electron distributions shows an interesting point; i.e., when piecewise linear segments are used to represent a continuous electron distribution, the wave interactions thus produced may have significant effects for the reflection and transmission of electromagnetic waves.
