Optimum balance between strength and ductility for fatigue properties

By means of the fatigue crack equivalent stress-strain model indicated with macro-strength and micro-ductility, the relations between the fatigue behavior and strength or ductility are derived. The results show that a condition of optimum balance between strength and ductility is the product maximum of macro-strength and micro-ductility, which is applicable for the determination of the fatigue threshold, fatigue crack propagation rate, fatigue limit of a notched specimen, as well as the number of stress cycles to initiate a fatigue crack. 13 refs.
