A simple, reliable, and rapid method has been developed for the determination of Pb and Cd traces in some nonferrous metals and their alloys by using a graphite rod electrothermal atomizer in air. It was found that the character and magnitude of the depressing influence of the accompanying components (Cu, Ni Zn, Fe, Mn, Al) on the absorbing power of the Pb and Cd atoms were analogous to those established previously. The optimum conditions for the determination of Pb and Cd by atomic absorption specrometry with an electrothermal graphite furnace in an oxidizing air atmosphere are presented. The time required for the determination of one element is less than 10-20 min. The method has been applied to attestation analysis of corresponding samples intended for release as reference standards.
