Rotational intensity distribution in the H/sub 2/ photoelectron spectrum

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., A; (United States)
The intensity distributions of rotational lines of the H/sub 2/ /sup +/ photoelectron spectrum (He I) were obtained using a high-resolution photoelectron spectrometer (..delta..E=13 meV) and the deconvolution technique. The ratios of the intensity of the lines for the (J',J'')0,0 (2,2), and (3,3) transitions to the intensity of the line for the (J',J'')1,1transition were measured as a function of the vibrational quantum numbers (v') and found to be almost independent of v'. It is observed that the ratio of the total intensity of the line with ..delta..J=2 to that with (1,1) decreases as v' becomes larger in agreement with the theoretical calculation. The rotational constants of the ground state of H/sub 2/ /sup +/ obtained in the present experiment agree with previously reported data.
