Journal Article · · Energy Detente; (United States)

The UNITAR/UNDP Information Centre for Heavy Crude and Tar Sands finds that over 994 million barrels of crude oil heavier than 20/sup 0/ API were produced last year. The increase of 51% over the 1983 total attests to continued development of heavy oil fields where costs are justified by economics and/or policy imperatives. This issue continues the coverage of the Third International Conference and highlights some of the sessions on production. A correction of heavy crude volumes in situ published August 21, 1985, is included. This issue also contains: (1) asphalt export prices to the USA from Canada, N. Antilles, and Venezuela; (2) Venezuela's refined petroleum-product export prices effective Sept. 6, 1985; (3) refining netback data for the US Gulf and West Coasts, and Rotterdam and Singapore as of Sept. 10, 1985; and (4) the fuel price/tax series and principal industrial fuel prices as of August 1985 for countries of the Eastern hemisphere.
