Fluidized bed material as a lime substitute and calcium source for apple seedlings

Journal Article · · J. Environ. Qual.; (United States)

Fluidized-bed material, a dry, high calcium, alkaline waste product from the combustion of coal and limestone was used as a lime substitute and calcium source for apple seedlings grown on acidic soils. The largest growth responses were obtained when the fluidized-bed material was applied at weights equivalent to the lime requirements of each soil. Leaf and stem dry weights and linear growth increased significantly after 17 weeks. (4 graphs, 13 references, 5 tables)
