The objective of the conference was to bring together an international team of experts in the application of power electronics to the power system including engineers from EPRI members, utility executives, university researchers, consultants, and equipment manufacturers. The topics of the conference centered on EPRI's FACTS initiative to achieve the maximum possible loading, control, and flexibility from the ac power grid using power semiconductors and advanced control concepts. The sessions were organized into four topic areas: General FACTS Technologies and Main Circuit Devices, FACTS Controls, Operation Considerations of FACTS, and FACTS System Planning Aspects.
