The authors present data on the absorption cross-section of IBr in the spectral range 110-200 nm. The photoexcitation of IBr vapor in mixtures with He, Ar, and Xe is investigated. The spectral dependence of the absolute quantum yield for the luminescence of IBr (D'3II/sub 2/ A'/sup 3/II/sub 2/) is determined. The quantum yield is found to reach values of ca 20% in the quasi-continuous absorption region of IBr (transition D/sup 1/..sigma..+..-->..X/sup 1/..sigma../sup +/). One possible reason for low quantum yield of IBr (D'/sup 3/II/sub 2/) may be an interaction between the ionic D/sup 1/..sigma../sup +/) and Rydberg c/sub 6//sup 1/II- and d/sub 6//sup 1/II-states of IBr.
