Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/5324981· OSTI ID:5324981
Guidelines are provided to help local energy officials assess their own urban energy contexts, and indications are given of how different energy technologies might fit within different city contexts or neighborhoods. Applications discussed include domestic hot water, heating and cooling of buildings, and community heating and cooling systems. Electricity, industrial process heat and fuels from renewable resources are included. Incremental planning as a way of making the best use of scarce resources is discussed, and the conservation and renewable options are overviewed. Land use for energy programs is discussed, and the kind of information needed on the city's existing building stock is given. Information needed on energy supply and distribution is also discussed. Socioeconomic factors of a city's energy and situation and related action are described. (LEW)
