Pulsed radiolysis of aqueous solutions of 18-crown-6

Journal Article · · High Energy Chem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5324409
The reaction of 18-crown-6 with primary radiolysis products of water was studied by the method of pulsed radiolysis. A high reactivity of the crown-ether with respect to the hydrogen atom and the OH radical, and a much lower reactivity with respect to a hydrated electron, were found. The H atom of the OH radical participated in the dehydrogenation reaction of 18-crown-6 to form a short-lived product with an absorption band having a maximum at 260 nm. Rate constants of the reactions of the radiolysis products of water with the crown ether were determined.
