Transferred orbital angular momentum in the excitation of [sup 138]Ba(. 6[ital s]6[ital p] 6 [sup 1][ital P][sub 1]) by electron impact

We have determined the [ital L][sub [perpendicular]] coherence parameter for electron-impact excitation of the (. . .6[ital s]6[ital p] 6 [sup 1][ital P][sub 1]) state in [sup 138]Ba by measuring the superelastic scattering of electrons from laser-excited [sup 138]Ba. Three electron-impact energies were studied and the scattering-angle coverage in each case was sufficient to allow the observation of pronounced structure in the angular behavior of this parameter. We also present a detailed comparison of our results with available theory.
