UC-25 metals, ceramics and materials US-Euratom Joint Research and Development Program: The relationship of nitrogen content of austenitic stainless steels to stress corrosion

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5312841
The solution annealing of all Type 304 specimens in each of the five test groups with various nitrogen contents has been completed. The susceptibilities of the specimens in the five groups have been determined using the U-bend test in boiling 42% magnesium chloride solution. More test specimens of Type 304 stainless steel have been made containing various amounts of nitrogen. These specimens will be used to determine the effects of thermal aging treatments on the susceptibility of the alloy to stress corrosion. The solubility of nitrogen in AISI Type 3048 stainless steel has been determined at 566 and 593)degree)C. 5 figs., 8 tabs.
