The authors have discussed the plastic deformation behavior of the supercooled liquid in Zr{sub 65}Al{sub 10}Ni{sub 10}Cu{sub 15} glassy alloy with a wide supercooled liquid region. The flow stress increases with increasing strain rate and decreasing temperature. The plot of log {sigma} versus log {dot {var_epsilon}} exhibited a sigmoidal shape. In the amorphous solid below the glass transition temperature, the m values and the elongation to failure were less than 0.3 and 100%, respectively. On the contrary, the supercooled liquid above the glass transition temperature exhibited the m values from 0.3 to 0.8 and the elongation more than 200%, respectively. The large elongation of 340% was achieved at a high strain rate of 5.0 {times} 10{sup {minus}2} s{sup {minus}1} at 673 K. The authors have obtained a large plastic deformation in metallic glass which was similar to a high-strain-rate superplasticity in polycrystalline materials. This seems to promise further development of the glassy alloy with a wide supercooled liquid region as a new material with high strength and good workability.
