DOE Secretary Edwards urged Congress to compromise on current bills dealing with radioactive waste management in a speech to the American Power Conference. Noting that the government is only responsible for the nuclear waste disposal, not temporary spent-fuel storage, Edwards suggested a government-private consortium for financing the Barnwell, SC reprocessing plant. Other speakers also called for congressional action on comprehensive legislation to deal with both high-level and low-level wastes. (DCK)
