Variation of ground-state. cap alpha. -particle strengths for sd- and fp-shell nuclei

It is shown that when (/sup 6/Li,d) experimental results are reduced via a distorted-wave Born-approximation procedure taking into account the finite size of /sup 6/Li, the systematic variation in ..cap alpha..-particle transfer strengths in the A=20 to A=68 region agrees with recent theoretical strength predictions based on shell-model wave functions.
