Systematics of ground-state $alpha$-particle spectroscopic strengths for sd- and fp-shell nuclei

We present systematics of the ground-state $alpha$-particle spectroscopic strengths for nuclei from $sup 20$Ne to $sup 66$Zn, measured in the ($sup 6$Li,d) reaction. An oscillatory decrease from $sup 20$Ne to $sup 32$S, which is in excellent agreement with SU(3) theory, is followed by a striking and unexplained increase at $sup 36$Ar and $sup 40$Ca and then a decrease up to $sup 52$Ti, after which there is again a rise.
