Well packer
This patent describes a well packer. It comprises: a tubular mandrel having a central longitudinal flow passage; an annular packer element assembly on the mandrel for sealing around the mandrel with a well bore wall; a drag spring and slip carrier assembly movably mounted on the mandrel; a slip assembly in the drag spring and slip carrier assembly including a slip housing movable within a relative-to the drag spring and slip carried assembly; an interlock assembly associated with the drag spring and slip carrier assembly for selectively coupling the mandrel with the slip assembly and the drag spring and slip carried assembly to set and release the packer in a well bore, the interlock assembly including arcuate running segments for holding the packer in a release mode and arcuate locking segments for setting and releasing the packer in a well bore; the running segments and the tubular mandrel having coating means for limiting movement of the running segments away from the annular packing element assembly to release positions of the running segments on the mandrel at which slack remains in the drag spring and slip carrier assembly when torque is applied to the mandrel in a direction opposite to the direction of torque required for setting the packer; and means in the interlock assembly coating with the locking segments for biasing lower end portions of the locking segments radially inwardly for maximum seating of the segments along the packer mandrel.
