There are many aspects to energy usage in irrigated agriculture. Irrigated agriculture requires machinery and machinery requires energy inputs. This paper discusses some of the technology that is being used to reduce energy consumption in the general area of irrigation. Subjects covered include irrigation scheduling, varietal testing, electric load management of pumping plants, equipment selection, conservation tillage, solar and wind energy applications, and others. 12 refs.
