Book ·
OSTI ID:5290230
While this investigation is basically a case study for the Imperial Valley, many of the results are applicable to geothermal development elsewhere and to development of other new energy sources, solar and tidal power, which all share common characteristics. Thirteen major economic indicators are analyzed for direct, secondary economic and demographic effects are given for the primary development scenario which calls for 4500 MW of electric generating capacity, in Imperial County by the year 2020. Impacts on agriculture, income distribution, employment, occupational variety, fiscal impact, and potential costs for pollution abatement or control are discussed. A summary of policy recommendations is given for local control over each socio-economic variable. (PCS)
